KARMA - The Invisible Cycle of Success

Updated: Mar 21, 2021

When Arjuna asked Krishna in the battlefield of Kurukshetra which one is better out of these two – Yoga of Knowledge (Jnanayoga) or Yoga of Karma (Karmayoga), Krishna justified for Karma Yoga saying being human we can’t sustain without work. We have to do something to sustain ourselves in the world – either we will eat or we will feed others but, in both cases, we will do work. Even process of thinking is Karma to in subtler form. So, Krishna suggested to do Karma rather than being inert. Hence Krishna – the proponent of highest philosophy of life, the Bhagawat Geeta, inspired Arjuna to take up the bow and fight, not to leave the battle field.

Understanding the importance of work with right mindset and right direction, I would love to share another form of KARMA – the invisible cycle of success.

We can remember and inspire ourselves if we can remind ourselves with this acronym of KARMA:

  • K – KPI (Key Performance Indicator)

  • A – Alert

  • R – Rituals

  • M – Motivated

  • A – Action

Let's look at each:

Ø KPI : A lot of time in our day goes in doing tasks which are routine and most of time we mechanically. Even if that mechanical action causes losing our valuable of time, still we do that and precious time gets lost. Like surfing net just like that or watching TV just no goal is set. Setting daily KPI will help us improve ourselves inch by inch.

Like if you wish to get up at 5am but could not, try to set us a KPI to do that for that day. Set the KPI again for next day again till it gets into skin.

Similarly, if you wish to quit smoking, set a KPI to quit smoking for a day. Once you achieve, set KPI for another day till it gets quitting becomes easy.

Setting aside some exceptional KPI on daily or weekly basis, apart from daily routine work will make each day interesting.

Ø Alert: Alert is reminding one self of the challenge taken on self and moving on that path. Remaining alert beaks our mechanical way of living life.

Ø Rituals: Setting aside KPI, helps us build our own rituals. Difference between men and animal is that man can discipline self and live a disciplined life.

There is saying in Upanishad:

Thought produces feeling;

Feeling produces action;

Action produces habit;

Habit produces Character;

Character produces destiny.

Ø Motivation: Though we take up any work or project in life to be successful, but success and failure both are part of one coin. Life is uncertain and most of failure is inevitable in life to give us necessary lessons. Hence, not to get defeated by failure, motivation is super vitamin pill.

Get yourself motivated wherever source you can. Ample of sources are available around us. Choose the right one for yourself.

Ø Action: This is most important component of KARMA. Until and unless this step is taken, we will not be able to understand and realize above points. Once we take action, then only we move closer either to success or failure and both are beneficial for our progress. And accordingly, taking action helps us in deciding on and taking course correction. Hence keep taking action.

Most important enemy in the way of taking action is procrastination, hence keep a alert watch on this enemy.

For success, keep repeating above cycle of KARMA.
